| A great idea and a watershed. |

First post in too many years but it's for a good cause. As i'm sure everybody knows by now Terry Pratchett donated 500k to alzheimers. This bloke has made a very good suggestion. There must be 500,000 fans out there, if we all donated a quid the public could match his donation. I've donated a quid for everyone in my family as we've all enjoyed his books over the years. Hell at a pound a book you'd only be giving the cost of a meal out or a pc game.
Wow... livejournals interface has become a bit more polished. ;-) |

| Which celebrity do you resemble? |
[May. 18th, 2006|01:51 am] |
I never trust things like this, expecting it to be a quiz, however this one lets you upload a photo. So .. well no psychobabble profiling here right? One quick snap on my trusty camera (I'll be a whore now, it's a sony k750i which I love the pictures on), bad photo here. A bit of ajax possibly flash muppetry et voila these are my celebrity matches:
1) Allen Iverson (63%) 2) Marco Pantiani 3) Helen Clark 4) Benicio Del Toro 5) Mel Gibson 6) Marc Anthony 7) Michael Landon (45%)
I don't know any of them. I know of 4, 5, 6 and 7. Oddly I am flattered by the comparissons to Benicio del Toro, I am worried but not suprised that there is one female in the list. I was expecting two. Ho hum. The website is here. This is via mefi but their account has been closed so you'll need to register. Fake details may well work as there is no verification of email address. I used my spam address to see what it gets! :-) |

| | Tomb Raider Legends - Unpaused | ] | Sometimes you just have to snort your vodka all over the keyboard... and get funny looks from your family. It's been a while since any internet comic has caught me by surprise, probably flem back in it's hayday. But Sinfest managed it today with this strip. Wonderful. Also been reading lots of Random acts of reality, or in other words i'm bored and reading the archives. I'm off to horribly butcher some handmade beef burgers with a fire. Remnants of a BBQ that need to be punished.
Why is the drunk icon green and puky? That never happens to me, I just get gin blossoms and a huge grin.... or fall asleep in a nightclub. |

| | awake | ] | I found this on mefi but I'll link straight to the video here. Check it out it's so graceful. In my first visit to thailand I stayed in a pretty nice hotel on the outskirts. I remember taking the back streets from my hotel to a bar I liked about 4 years ago and getting shouted at by a bunch of young thai guys kicking this small football around, I couldn't work out what the hell the game was but stopped to watch. Also joined in when it got kicked at me. ;-) Man I was hopeless, not liking football really hinders those feet/spherical object skills so instead I just sat and watched for a while. I also saw people playing a similar game on the beach with a small wicker type ball inside another one so it rattled and made noises as it was kicked. The video is almost balletic, very cool. It's different to the thai one as it originates in myanmar apparently. |

| | Nope | ] | So at work I decided to test my typing speed on a mac keyboard, aiming for 100wpm at 90%+ accuracy. I managed 85wpm gross at 92%. Just now at home i've managed 82wpm gross at 95% accuracy. Yes for the pedants out there I know I am quoting the stats in a way that skews the results towards my leetness. I will break 100wpm gross @ > 90%. :-)
Test Name: Tigers in the wild. Gross Speed: 82wpm Errors: 4 words Net Speed: 78wpm Accuracy: 95%
Not bad for 00:45 on a Thursday? Quite why Thursday is significant I know not but I am sure it is.
For those of you who are interested it is a java applet here: Typing Test. It's fine under OSX and Windows XP and should be fine under linux with a suitable jvm, I haven't tried yet.
In other news my evening has been spent destroying the independants crossword, compiling a backport of testings mono apache2 stuff to sarge for a client tomorrow, god am I going to recommend they use ubuntu when they go live. FFS. :-) Oh and playing HL2, I still haven't finished it.
Oh, and I think I have a tongue fetish now. Viz and viz. Just pretend I never posted either of those two links. Thanks monkeyfilter. |

With that out of the way however I showed 1 accross in the times cryptic crossword to about 4 different people and all of them went "WTF?". So I think it's fair to say that this isn't 'just me'. So, is there anything the crossword compiler wants to tell us? You know, be frank about it?

Cute & Small Boobs Raw score: 29% Big Breasts, 63% Big Ass, and 80% Cute! |
Thanks for taking the T and A and C test! Based on your selections, the results are clear: you show an attraction to smaller breasts, larger asses, and sexier composure than others who've taken the test.
Note that because you scored small on breasts but large on ass size, it might appear you like girls bottom heavy. That's probably not the case. What's more likely is that you notice curvy, voluptuous butts, and you don't like big, fake boobs. Big real boobs are even worse because of the sag.
Anyway, my third variable, "cuteness" is a mostly objective measure of how innocent a given model looked. It's determined by a combination of a lot of factors: lack of dark eye makeup, facial expression, posture, etc. If you scored high on that variable, you are either really nice OR you're into deflowering teens. If you scored low, you are attracted to raunchier, sexier, women. In your case, your higher than average score suggests you appreciate a cuter, nicer look. Kudos!
Recommended Celebrity: Hilary Duff, because she is the ultimate in cute! Especially since she lost that baby fat! | | |
My test tracked 3 variables How you compared to other people your age and gender: | You scored higher than 12% on tit-size | | You scored higher than 82% on ass-size | | You scored higher than 93% on cuteness |

So erm... I got in the Dawn of War beta... wh00t. First time on a closed beta of a non MMORPG game for so long. Me uber bouncy. Also XBox arrives back today, am scared, I mean what if they have lost Ninja Gaiden and even worse what if they have replaced the HD and I lose all my Knights of the Old Republic stuff!
Hope boses at work don't give me grief over this, e.g. sitting at home working waiting for courier to get his ass to my doorstep.
Here's hoping they let me in the Worlds of Warcraft european beta seeing as signups started on erm... Monday. Well they posted the signup page at like 2am monday morning apparently. |

Oh and this Comic I like very much. Yes I do. |

| Superb... I want this book. |
[Jun. 11th, 2004|02:13 pm] |
So via boingboing I found this website called the Arcata Eye which appears to be a very hippyish little town in north Cali. They have a quite obviously but superbly rewritten of something like the policemans notebook. It is often hilarious. Archives are available.
Choice quotes so far:
4:17 p.m. A man told police he thought people were following him around, but he wasn’t sure people were following him around, and maybe other people were following them around while they were following him around. He then admitted that he had taken methamphetamine two days ago and hadn’t slept since.
Friday, May 14 1:30 a.m. Two men voiced objections to Arcata’s demographic makeup in front of a Valley West store. After commenting that there are "too many hippies in town," one of the men did the only logical thing - uprooted decorative foliage from a planter and threw it at a window, then got in his car and drove away. The window didn’t break, the plant was replanted and the hippies still frolic, gambol and reproduce.
oh and poetry:
5:19 p.m. She wandered lonely, also loud And moped on Bottoms o’er subdiville When all at once, where fields, once plowed A dose of vulgar language, shrill Benighted Karen and V streets Muttering and cursing in the breeze. Continuous as oaths that rise And mingle with construction waste A streak of never-ending cries Along the margin of a bay Too bold for even this expanse Tossing words unworthy as she advanced. The cops beside her drove, and they Asked her for some state I.D. Her red hair, blue mouth on display In such a jocund swearing spree. She ranted - raved - but had to stop When news of Muni Code was brought. For oft, when Windsong housing sites Are vandalized or rendered crude By trashy talk and verbal blight From pissed-off chicks with language lewd Who then depart, however shrill In Sempervirens they must chill.
heh. |

[Jun. 10th, 2004|08:31 pm] |
Does anyone else out there play this? I have never seen a game with so much bloody kill stealing it's impossible to have a good solo fight. I can happily take on around 2-3 yellows and 1 orange as a Lvl7 Controller. But nope... at some point someone will turn up and steal all bar the one i'm fighting and sometimes that one too. I may have them all stunned etc. but for gods sake people have some damn respect. And yeah it does cost you XP. If you have not damaged them much but just kept them under you get nada. Sod this i'm off back to FFXI. |

| XBox support goodness. |
[Jun. 2nd, 2004|06:34 pm] |
So yeah, I bought my XBox on day of release in the UK at midnight, like March 2002. Ninja Gaiden amongst other new games no longer run (disc read error) yet older games such as KOTOR are fine. So I phone XBox support today knowing a few things I didn't know in my original call a few weeks back.
1) It's common with a lot of new games and will be the problem with Halo by the sound of it. 2) It's localised to either fucked xbox's or good xbox's with Thompson drives. 3) Mine and my flatmates xbox both fall into the latter category of 2).
So I explain the issue to this helpful guy on the phone and he says that "Microsoft is aware of no issues with any of the dvd drives currently used in xbox consoles". So I ask him to explain how come 100% of the posts by people complaining of issues with Ninja Gaiden to their own forums are from people with Thompson drives. He stutters a bit and asks me to hold. He comes back and explains that they do free repairs at their discretion. I mentioned that my xbox is over 2 years old and is thus out of warranty but is not broken as other games work fine, but it is a problem with the new disc style and the old thompson drives. He denies this but puts me on hold. He then says he has organised for a free repair. A courier will arrive, take my xbox, repair it within 24hours and send it back to me.
So with a bit of a hint that telling me it's not broken could be bad for business they repair it for free and quickly.
Lets wait and see. |
